what the nra has been doing and i wish they had listen to the majority of their members that are saying we should have universal background checks. an awful lot of them are saying i don't need a large magazine. that's not what i hunt for. i have a gun home to protect my family. we're not taking any of that away. but there's still -- if you read the blogs and everything, i mean, what's being put out there is so far from the truth. but when you think about it, you know, what we're trying to do is holistically, we're trying to look at the guns that cause the most damage, the large magazines which obviously once you go over that 15, 20, 30, 40, up to 100, they say, well, that's taking away our right, but why did we ban machine guns? that's legal by the supreme court. i still go back to the supreme court which they seem to be ignoring right now, the nr a. they don't even want to listen to their own people in the supreme court saying that the municipalities and the sats have the right to make laws to protect their citizens. >> let's go to ron reagan on these thoughts. i want you to watch some

[video clip] >> it's an honor to be here on behalf of 4.5 million moms, dads, sons, daughters in every state across our nation who make up the national rifle association of america. there are 4.5 million active members of the nra. they are joined by tens of millions of supporters throughout the country. it is on behalf of those millions of decent, hard- working, law-abiding citizens that i am here today to give voice to their concerns. the title of today's hearing is "what should america do about gun violence?" we believe the answer is to be honest about what works and honest about what does not work. teaching safe and responsible gun ownership works. the nra has a long and proud history of doing exactly that. our child safety program has taught 25 million young children that if they see a gun, they should do four things. stop, don't touch, the area, call an adult. as a result of this and other private-sector programs, fatal firearms accidents are at the lowest level in 100 years.

. this is something the president has said should be left to the schools, the nra says should be part of a national plan. it will be interesting given the poll numbers. the entrenched interests in washington not on the president's side. we'll see what he does there. one other thing i want to note. the president talked about how immigrants in this country should be allowed to go to school and then become the leaders of the next generation, not be deported. well, remember, it was his administration, this is the bush administration here, deportations of illegal immigrants, it was the obama administration that angered many latinos, and especially latino interest groups by increasing the number of deportations. the president is hoping now that this actually gives him some credibility as he tries to negotiate an immigration reform package with republicans. and anderson, one of the things we have seen since the election is the republicans know the math. they see the demographics of this country. they realize they have a crisis. they cannot be a viable national party if they keep getting such a tiny percen
